About Festora Ghana
Festora Ghana makes it easier for people in Ghana to discover and register for events.
Visitors can browse upcoming events, explore event details and register for events through the platform.
Event creators can:
- Publish upcoming events
- Manage their events
- Receive registrations
- Collect registration payments
- Receive registration revenue through Paystack
- Manage event information and availability
The platform also includes monthly subscriptions and a dedicated administration system.
Administrators can review submitted events and approve, reject, suspend or delete events to maintain the quality of the platform.
Building Process
Frontend: Built with React and Next.js with Tailwind CSS for the responsive interface.
Backend: Convex provides the backend and database layer, handling application data, queries, mutations and real-time functionality.
Authentication: Clerk manages user authentication and account management.
Payments: Paystack handles Ghanaian payment methods, including Mobile Money and card payments.
Creator payouts: Paystack subaccounts are used to route registration revenue to event creators.
Administration: A protected admin dashboard allows approved administrators to manage users, events and platform activity. Users can request admin access through a controlled approval flow.
Deployment: The application is deployed on Vercel, with the production environment supporting the platform's webhooks and application services.
What I Discovered
Festora taught me how to build a marketplace-style platform where different types of users have different responsibilities.
I learned how authentication, authorization and role-based access need to work together rather than simply hiding an admin page.
Integrating Paystack also taught me how to think about payments beyond checkout — including registration payments, creator payouts, subscriptions and webhook-driven payment states.
The project also pushed me to think carefully about database architecture and query efficiency when working with a backend such as Convex.
Most importantly, Festora showed me how to turn a simple idea — discovering events — into a complete platform with discovery, registration, payments, creators and administration.
